SYNOPSIS OF ACTIVITY
--------------------
Solar activity was low due to a C1 flare from Region 7618
(N06W85) at 1854UT. Region 7620 (N05W10) nearly doubled in size
during the period and produced frequent B-class flares. Some
mixed polarities are visible in the Region as is an arch
filament system which bodes well for further growth. Region
7622 (N13E36) was stable with infrequent fluctuations.
Solar activity forecast: solar activity should be low
with Region 7622 producing the bulk of the C-class flares.
Continued growth in 7620 will make M-class flares more
likely.
The geomagnetic field remained quiet.
Geophysical activity forecast: the geomagnetic field
should be generally unsettled for 24 nov. Quiet to unsettled
conditions should be experienced on 25 and 26 nov.
Event probabilities 25 nov-27 nov
Class M 25/30/30
Class X 01/01/01
Proton 01/01/01
PCAF Green
Geomagnetic activity probabilities 25 nov-27 nov
A. Middle Latitudes
Active 20/15/15
Minor Storm 05/01/01
Major-Severe Storm 01/01/01
B. High Latitudes
Active 25/20/20
Minor Storm 10/01/01
Major-Severe Storm 01/01/01
HF propagation conditions were normal over all regions.
The coronal-hole related disturbance did not materialize.
Conditions are expected to continue normal over all regions.
There is an increasing chance for isolated SWFs (short-wave
fadeouts) due to possible minor flaring from developing
Region 7620 over daylit paths.

All times associated with x-ray flares (ex. flares which produce
associated x-ray bursts) refer to the begin, max, and end times of the
x-rays. Flares which are not associated with x-ray signatures use the
optical observations to determine the begin, max, and end times.
Acronyms used to identify sweeps and optical phenomena include:
II = Type II Sweep Frequency Event
III = Type III Sweep
IV = Type IV Sweep
V = Type V Sweep
Continuum = Continuum Radio Event
Loop = Loop Prominence System,
Spray = Limb Spray,
Surge = Bright Limb Surge,
EPL = Eruptive Prominence on the Limb.

Well, I've read several postings from ARRL staff members. But none on
this subject. Does the ARRL actually do anything useful? Or is
soliciting dues the most activity they do? Isn't this a case crying out
for an *energetic* national amateur radio association to correct before
it gets out of hand? Does anybody know where we could find such an
organization?

This is because of the wide bandwidth of FM transmissions (I believe). Because
FM transmissions take up so much bandwidth, the transmissions can be heard
slightly off-frequency.
Hope this helps.

To: info-hams@ucsd.edu
Bob, I'm not sure if both VFO and Memories are unlocking, or what.
The main thing about synthesizers is: 1)Is the VCO still in "linear range", or
is it maxed out at one of the limits? 2)Is the reference oscillator (5.12 Mhz?)
still ticking? 3)A mixed oscillator might also be going out (I've seen
crystals fail before). The actual synthesizer part usually outputs about 5-6
Mhz, and is mixed with another crystal oscillator/multiplied up.
Bottom line, put the rig in the freezer, and check the crystal oscillators with
a general coverage receiver with a clip lead near the oscillator to the antenna
input of your g.c. receiver.
Good Luck..73 Woody AK2F

I agree. A lot of readers would highly appreciate FAQ's in this newsgroup.
That would eliminate duplicate questions and give fast answers to many.
The scanner's stuff was just of general interest of mine.
Yesterday I was on Santa Claus parade in Toronto. It's quite
interesting and long street show. In a few hours everyone was asking each other
"when Santa will arrive..?" No answers was gotten until some guy came by with
a scanner in his hands. His was listening a transmissions between Global Television,
their operators, police and some other services and gave us a most complete
information about all further street and parade actions.
I was quite impressed by this and start thinking about purchasing of scanner.

I have a radio shack htx-202. I'm interested in netting with some other
locals trying to up our code-speed via 2-meter MCW (until I get my HF rig
on the air). Question: How could I do MCW with it? I'd prefer to use
something which would key the transmitter semi-QSK-wise when I hit the code
key--know what I mean?
Any ideas?

VK2SG RTTY DX Notes for week ending 26 November 1993 (BID RTDX1126)
The bands have been poor again this week, and forecasts are not good.
I would like to repeat some comments allready made before. It
concerns the removal of the Bulletin Identification Number of the
notes. During the week I received from Spain notes which I edited a
month ago. The BID number has been removed and replaced with a local
bid number. This has caused confusion and some BBSs suffer the
multiple delivery of the DX notes with different BIDs. Please only
pass on the received BID number. If you cannot do this, then allow
someone else who can pass on the correct BID to do so.
Our information this week came from ZS5S, W2JGR, WB2CJL, AA5AU, I5ICY,
I5IGQ, IK1HSR, SP5AA, DJ3IW and the Central Eu Dx-Cluster node DB0SPC,
and NJ0M node of the Twin Cities Dx Pck Cluster. Tnx for the help on
putting this notes together.
