  77. SYNOPSIS OF ACTIVITY
  78. --------------------

  80.              Solar activity was low due to a C1 flare from Region 7618
  81.        (N06W85) at 1854UT. Region 7620 (N05W10) nearly doubled in size
  82.        during the period and produced frequent B-class flares. Some
  83.        mixed polarities are visible in the Region as is an arch
  84.        filament system which bodes well for further growth. Region
  85.        7622 (N13E36) was stable with infrequent fluctuations.
  86.  
  87.             Solar activity forecast:  solar activity should be low
  88.        with Region 7622 producing the bulk of the C-class flares.
  89.        Continued growth in 7620 will make M-class flares more
  90.        likely.

  92.             The geomagnetic field remained quiet.

  94.             Geophysical activity forecast:  the geomagnetic field
  95.        should be generally unsettled for 24 nov. Quiet to unsettled

  276. Well, I've read several postings from ARRL staff members.  But none on
  277. this subject.  Does the ARRL actually do anything useful?  Or is
  278. soliciting dues the most activity they do?  Isn't this a case crying out
  279. for an *energetic* national amateur radio association to correct before
  280. it gets out of hand?  Does anybody know where we could find such an
  281. organization?

  303. This is because of the wide bandwidth of FM transmissions (I believe).  Because
  304. FM transmissions take up so much bandwidth, the transmissions can be heard 
  305. slightly off-frequency.

  360. Bob, I'm not sure if both VFO and Memories are unlocking, or what.
  361. The main thing about synthesizers is: 1)Is the VCO still in "linear range", or
  362. is it maxed out at one of the limits? 2)Is the reference oscillator (5.12 Mhz?)
  363. still ticking?  3)A mixed oscillator might also be going out (I've seen
  364. crystals fail before).  The actual synthesizer part usually outputs about 5-6
  365. Mhz, and is mixed with another crystal oscillator/multiplied up.
  366.  
  367. Bottom line, put the rig in the freezer, and check the crystal oscillators with
  368. a general coverage receiver with a clip lead near the oscillator to the antenna
  369. input of your g.c. receiver.

  387. That would eliminate duplicate questions and give fast answers to many.
  388. The scanner's stuff was just of general interest of mine. 
  389. Yesterday I was on Santa Claus parade in Toronto. It's quite
  390. interesting and long street show. In a few hours everyone was asking each other
  391. "when Santa will arrive..?" No answers was gotten until some guy came by with
  392. a scanner in his hands. His was listening a transmissions between Global Television,
  393. their operators, police and some other services and gave us a most complete 
  394. information about all further street and parade actions. 
  395. I was quite impressed by this and start thinking about purchasing of scanner.

  424. locals trying to up our code-speed via 2-meter MCW (until I get my HF rig
  425. on the air).  Question:  How could I do MCW with it?  I'd prefer to use
  426. something which would key the transmitter semi-QSK-wise when I hit the code
  427. key--know what I mean?

  484. The bands have been poor again this week, and forecasts are not good.
  485.  
  486. I would like to repeat some comments allready made before.  It
  487. concerns the removal of the Bulletin Identification Number of the
  488. notes.  During the week I received from Spain notes which I edited a
  489. month ago.  The BID number has been removed and replaced with a local
  490. bid number.  This has caused confusion and some BBSs suffer the
  491. multiple delivery of the DX notes with different BIDs.  Please only
  492. pass on the received BID number.  If you cannot do this, then allow
